Built mill by mill, decade by decade.
In 1972, a group of Kolkata-based corrugating mill owners sat down to formalise what had until then been an informal conversation: how does a fragmented, family-run industry speak with one voice to government, to end-customers, and to the global supply chain that was beginning to reshape Eastern India's packaging economy?
The Eastern India Corrugated Box Manufacturers' Association was the answer. From a single-room secretariat in central Kolkata, EICMA has grown into the affiliated body of choice for the region's corrugating trade — a member of the Federation of Corrugated Box Manufacturers (FCBM) and the institution that end-industries from tea to fresh produce now consult when packaging standards, freight policy, or GST clarification is on the table.
Fifty-four years on, the work is the same — protect the industry, raise its standards, and serve the wider economy that depends on our boxes.
